How does the Homer A workbook differ from the Older Beginner workbook in intensity?
I have Aesop A and it is on the simple side for my 6th grade dd. I am contemplating starting her in Aesop B. But I am wondering if using Homer A would be an option.
My 8th grade dd is using the Older Beginner workbook. Is Homer A way harder than Aesop but less than the Older Beginner or is it about on the same level as the Older Beginner? I thought I had heard there is a large jump between Aesop and Homer.
I would just hate to take part of a year and do Aesop B if she could be doing Homer A.
Hope that makes sense.
Thanks.

If your daughter is in 6th grade and if Aesop A is too easy, don't put her in Aesop B, go to Homer A. The reason I would say not to go into Older Beginners, is that Older Beginners is a crash course for those who started our program in 7th grade or later. You would benefit from (or rather she would ) going through the grammar in Homer A at a slower pace. The advantage of the slower pace in grammar is that it sinks in better. There is a lot of stuff to cover in Homer, and when possible, it is best digested at a rate where you can really savor the grammar. Homer A and Homer B are 20 weeks each, so you can just about cover both in one school year, perhaps skipping a lesson or four total. Older Beginners covers that same material in 22 weeks, which means less repetition, as you know from your older student. But it's up to you. I am sure she can handle either, just that my experience is that kids (even very bright ones) benefit long term from the rigor and repetition that Homer A and B offer. Lene

Thanks. That is what I was thinking. I just wanted to make sure that Homer A would be way less intense than the Older Beginner. Because she is definitely not ready for the crash course. It is just right for my advanced 8th grader. But if Homer A is at a slower pace, it would work just fine. She could benefit from doing Aesop but I don't think there would be much challenge. I just needed to make sure that there wouldn't be too much challenge in Homer A. I did finally get the preview to work so I got to see the Homer A sample on LuLu. I am also going to go back and read through the Homer Core to make sure she can handle the steps spending 4 weeks on each one. I read through it the first time with the mindset of the Older Beginner workbook.
If she does really well, we can do both Homer workbooks this year and move onto Diogenes next year with her sister. Or she can do Homer B next year.
