Hi Lene, It's me--the mother of the eleven year old who wrote four sentences for Julius Caesar in Aesop A a few weeks ago.
Homer has arrived and I feel we could start it is another week or so. The question is: Should I?
We have not done Aesop B yet, though we are at week 13 of A. It is, as I mentioned before, not terribly challenging to him.
He is currently in the first half of Rod and Staff Grammar level 4. (We just learned about direct objects this week).
I am not strong in grammar...though it seems as if the explanations in the Core are straightforward. I do not intend to purchase Harvey's.
I have a plan to work on grammar 4x a week--we should be able to do Rod and Staff 7 when we start Diogenes at the beginning of Grade 7 (Fall 2011) so you see we have lots of time.
What do you think we should do?
(PS: my daughter is 8 and in grade 3 and she is currently using Rod and Staff English 3. We will continue with Aesop.)

Try it. See how he does. If the grammar becomes too challenging, either slow it down, or go back to Aesop B.
I would say if you're not doing a grammar book, and you have not finished Aesop B, and you're just doing Homer A, you may do fine, but you should not be surprised if you hit a snag.
Rod and Staff grammars are fine, as is Harvey's. The grammar--and whether you think you need one--is really up to you.
Lene

Thank you. I am so nervous to begin this with him!
