Sentence:
He had said it over and over to himself, and now he was humming it properly.
My daughter marked "to himself" as an adverb modifying "said". Is it not included in the answer key because it is an adverbial clause phrase and they haven't been covered yet?
"You needn't shout so loud. I heard you quite well the first time."
She marked "the first time" as an adverb modifying "heard" with the classification of when, but it wasn't listed in the answer key either.
Are these correct?

Those phrases are both functioning adverbially. 'To himself' is not an adverb, but the phrase functions like one. Tell your daughter she did a good job. Carolyn
