The model sentence is: "The quarrel between the two brothers daily became more bitter; ..." The answer key defines 'became' as an action verb, classifies it as 'transitive' and gives it the properties of the present tense. We had it defined as 'state', classified it as 'linking' and in the 'past' tense. Is the answer key wrong? If not, can you please explain this so I can explain it to my kids? I'm confused.
