My daughter and I are a little confused about the instructions for OB Week 20 (which would also have applied to 19). For Day 1, it says to do the analysis for Paul Revere's Ride. Then for the writing project it says the student is to do the same type of analysis for one of their old writing projects and write a more concise version.
It seems like a lot of work to analyze two different narratives on top of the rewriting. Am I misreading something?
Would it work to just do the analysis and rewrite on the old project? Or would it work to just do the analysis on Paul Revere's Ride and do a concise version of that? I do understand the value of taking one of the student's rewrites and making it more concise. But wouldn't it teach the same skills to make the new narrative concise. The only difference would be that one piece was the student's work and one wouldn't be.
Thanks and I hope my question makes sense.

Thanks for calling that error to our attention!
You are certainly free to do the analysis on just your student's old writing project. As with any assignment in Classical Writing, if your student understands the concept and doesn't need the additional practice, you should adjust the workload. We included the assignment because the student does work with the Paul Revere narrative through the week for imitation exercises and most importantly for the summary and precis which really require a strong understanding of the original model.
Please feel free to ask if this does not clear things up for you.

So they are doing both a concise rewrite and a summary then precis?
I hadn't looked at Day 4. Sorry about that.

Yes, the week's assignment for the writing project is a rewrite of a previous project with attention to concision and credibility. The Day 1 Read and Understand assignment is to analyze the Paul Revere model, which then facilitates the Day 4 assignment is to write a summary and precis.
I hope that helps! Kathy

That makes sense now. Thanks, Kathy.
