We're moving along happily through Homer B, but I always find myself at a loss for coming up with writing projects across the curriculum. I've heard of books of "writing prompts", or sometimes we've tried essay questions from some of our other texts (history especially) but it never seems very successful. Does anyone have any suggestions or resources to help with this?

Well, I don't have too much experiance in successfully implementing ideas, but I can come up with a few. ;D Since in Homer we are still working on narrations, I'd ask for a narration of what was read in their history readings. We didn't get to the part in Homer where you tell a story backwards but at that point I might ask for them to write a narration of history starting at the end of a war or main event and work their way back to its start. Same idea for science. hmm, perhaps they can narrate how something got invented (forwards or backwards ). hths

Thanks for answering this, Kathie.
Really, in Homer, you're not looking for essay prompts, you're merely looking to rewrite a story, so all you have to do is find a narrative in literature or history or elsewhere.
