On Older Beginner Week 21, Day 3, we are wondering where part of the diagramming goes.
"She wove a web of marvelous beauty, so thin and light that it would float in the air, and yet so strong that it could hold a lion in its meshes."
Where does "so strong that" fit into the diagram?

The web is
"so thin and light"
and yet
"so strong"
so you have a compounded, compound modification of 'web' with those two adjectival phrases above.
Let me know if that solves it for you, or not.

Ugh! Clear as mud. Was there a reason why "so strong" was left out of the answer diagram?

Human error? We'll get it fixed. Thank you for catching it! Carolyn

Okay. I just wanted to make sure it was just omitted by error and not for some reason I was supposed to know about.

Diagramming is really hard to ask about in text but here goes.
I think I understand why "and yet so strong . . ." modifies thin. (Would that be the compound, compound you were referring to?
Further, the answer key has "and yet it could hold a lion in its meshes" and I understand that diagramming. However, I don't know where in that grouping (for lack of a better term) to put "so strong" Would it just go on the same line as "and yet"?
Is that clear as mud? And perhaps it doesn't really matter. But I trying to wrap my head around this material so I am comfortable with it.
Thanks much.

Cynthia, 'And yet' connects 'so thin and light' to 'so strong' (so, 'and yet' has to move rather significantly). Then the 'it could hold a lion' 'dangles' from 'so strong' in the same way the other clauses dangle from the 'so thin and light'. If you can't quite see that, I can send you a pdf of the corrected page. If you'll e-mail us, I'll get one off to you. 'me' is indeed FIRST person singular. Thanks for catching that! Carolyn
