I am trying to figure out how to diagram a sentence containing multi sentece dialog. We were working on The Wind and the Sun last week and we did not know how to handle the second sentence in the story. I understand that the quote is treated as a DO and after looking through all my English resources, I see that the quote is put on a tree and diagrammed as a sentence in the DO position. What I am not sure of is what you do with a quote that is multi sentences? Do you diagram each of the sentences beside each other on a tree in the DO position? I can't seem to find the answer in any of the books I have. Thanks for your help! Mary

Hi Mary,
Good question. I think I'd just take each sentence separately. If there's not a "He said....", just diagram the quote itself, not in the DO position.
