Hello,
I am getting my plan together for next year and wanted your thoughts about grammar. We go year around with several 2-3 week breaks.
We are at level 6 in Homer and I plan to continue working through this until we finish, probably in about 3 months. After this, we will do some work in the Poetry book and continue doing grammar analysis from our own readings.
My question is: Do I need to continue "teaching" more concepts of grammar next year? I plan on purchasing the Logic book, when it comes out. So I am not sure how much grammar it will include.
Not being a grammar person myself, I am just wondering "how much" do we need? Should I get the next level in Harvey's, with anticipation of covering this in the Logic book?
My first thoughts are to continue analyzing so that we do not lose the grammar that we have learned this year with Homer and to focus more on "writing," such as research, continued outlining and summarizing and move to learning about argumentive forms or writing. Maybe this is covered in the Logic book. Just not sure.
Thanks so much. April in GA

You should take the rest of your CW Homer time to get through Harvey's part I. Part II should be concurrent or before CW Diogenes.
I do recommend for most students that they go through Harvey's Revised Grammar. There are many concepts which are repeated in the second book and I think you will find that your student, if he was proficient in Harvey's Elementary, will be fairly independent in studying the Revised. It won't take as much teaching for you.
Yes, you got it!! Analyze SO MUCH that you (and he) will never forget it. It will be second hand to get to a sentence and it will be easier to see whether this pesky FOR or TILL is a preposition or a conjunction or some totally different thing. The structure of the language, the parts of the sentences will be familar building blocks. That is the goal!!
The "logic" book? Are you referring to our next book?
Thanks for writing, Lene

Yes, I was asking about your next book and how much grammar it would include, if any. And do you get into argumentive writing? Having never studied logic, I am not sure what all this would cover.
Thanks April

The next book will finish the application of Harvey's Elementary Grammar and also introduce sentence level logic.
It will also begin argumentative writing, that is, formulating basic supports for a simple thesis and such, generating examples and analogies.
HTH,
Lene
