I'm trying to figure out how to schedule subjects for my boys(currently 13 and in 7th grade) for the next couple of years, and I've been reading this thread on the Diogenes board about Logic: lene.proboards15.com/index.cgi?board=diogenes&action=display&thread=1122586364Will Cothran's Traditional Logic book(s) be scheduled in Herodotus similar to the way Harvey's is scheduled in the earlier books? Or will we need to do that separately from CW? We are currently in Unit 2 of Diogenes: Maxim and I must say you all are geniuses! I love the way the material is laid out, and my boys are really enjoying writing with your step-by-step approach.

Jackie, thanks so much for your kind words. I am so glad you are enjoying Diogenes. Yes, we are planning to schedule Traditional Logic just as we did Harveys, so it will be on the weekly assignment checklist. Enjoy your planning! I love to do that this time of year. Kathy

Will this book go through Traditional Logic I and II or just the first book?

ur, wish I could just edit my last post.... I meant to add another question: How closely are the CW lessons tied to the TL lessons? I was considering using TL next year but that will be a year before we get to Herodotus. So now I'm debating on holding TL off till then & doing more informal logic with Thinking Toolbox OR just going ahead with TL and just review it if need be as we go thru Herodotus (but use something else for logic ...).
TIA, Kathie (working on HomerOB with current 7th and 8th graders, & Aesop A w/3rd grader)

We recommend doing TL I with Herodotus, and TL II before Demosthenes (that is concurrent with Plutarch).
But we're holding the logic sections optional, AND we're teaching everything the student needs to do the lesson in the book. It is just that most students do better doing TL I and II as well.
So it's optional.
The way we set up the logic is to do sentence-level logic in Herodotus, and argument-level logic in Demosthenes.
TL I and II don't use that division, but we prefer it because it is closer tied to language and follow a progression that is easier to manage one step at a time. (Or so we think.)
