I am trying to figure out the proper placement for my dd, age 11. She is one whom likes to change her curriculum around. She has always been one too work with two or three different books for each subject. (yes, ouch on my budget) She works fast, and is quite gifted when it comes to schooling. We often work on taking her knowledge wide and deep verses simply advancing. That said her writing is her weakest area, had to get over some pencil phobia. She is strong with English grammar and can easily transfer it to Latin and Spanish. It does not always transfer into her own writing in English because she gets sloppy and does not take her time. She would much rather write a paragraph in Latin than in English go figure!! We worked through IEW, SWI B this school year. It was ok. DD enjoyed it; so we stayed with it for the year. I love the outlining that she learned from it. I hated all of the checklists. I saw her sometimes trying to force things into her writing because she needed 2 of something. That said she stated that she would not mind continuing with IEW, but also wanted a different approach or prospective. She will be 11 in May and going into the 7 grade in the fall. I was not sure if we should go with Homer A or with the older beginners book? We are in no hurry or rush and would rather take it slow at her level. I would love any suggestions or recommendations. Also should we try the poetry books this year as well or put those off for another year?
thanks so much!
