I am using this program next year with my 4th and 6th graders. My 4th grader will be at a 5/6th level academically and my 6th grader seems to place a little ahead. I want to do both at the same level if appropriate. They have had strong grammar - my older one diagramming sentences but my younger doing more worksheet oriented work. Should I begin with Aesop B or go right to Homer? If the latter, will they miss key developmental areas with the Aesop? Thanks for the help!!

I would recommend starting with Aesop B. It does provide an important foundation. It may take you less than a year to get through Aesop B, so getting Homer may be helpful as well. You could look ahead, see where you're going, and have a better idea of whether or not you'll be able to keep your girls together, and/or plan how to do so. My children are 14 months apart, and it's worked well to keep them together. From time to time, I'll adjust the assignments for one or the other of them, but we can work on the same story and do most of the analysis work together. Carolyn

Thanks- that is very helpful. Am I correct in that the Harvey grammar begins with the Homer books or would I need that when beginning Aesop B?

You're correct -- our schedule for using Harvey's starts with Homer, and it continues through Diogenes. If you feel yourself weak in grammar, you may find it helpful to have on hand as a reference, but it is not needed with Aesop. Carolyn
