I am not clear on whether closed couplets end with ending punctuation or not. I understand a closed couplet contains a complete thought, but we've come across plenty of couplets that contain a complete thought, but then continue on after a comma. Thanks!

A closed couplet contains a complete thought. It may end in a comma because the full sentence containing the closed couplet is co-joined to another sentence by similarity of subject or parallel structure. It would still be considered a closed couplet.
