I'm thinking about buying the Aesop A for my 3rd grader, but would like to include my first grader on this lesson time. Is it possible to lesson the load for his level?

Most first-graders are not ready for Aesop, but there are many things your first-grader could do that relates to Aesop. Handwriting and spelling lessons could tie in to the fable of the week, and he could join in on the discussion of the story and have a chance to narrate what he remembers from the reading. The grammar and punctuation lessons would likely be more of a challenge. Carolyn

Your first grader can trail along as far as he wishes to. One of my first graders (way back then) was fully able to do Aesop in first grade. Most first graders won't like too much of the writing but are happy to be part of all the oral work.
The main thing is not to push work on a 1st grader that he is not ready for. In so far as he is eager and willing (and most first graders are so long as they have a sense of success) let him do as much as he can. Trust him to let you know how far he will be involved and you will probably do just fine.
