My older boys are 12 yo (7th grade), and 10 yo (5th grade). Both have a relatively good grasp of grammar, are avid readers, but very reluctant writers. I have purchased the Older Beginners set for my 12 yo, but I'm not sure what to do for my 10yo. Do I have him do the Aesop section of the Older Beginners, then start him with Homer, or do I start with Aesop, or just keep him in Older Beginners with his big brother? I'm confused. He's a very bright boy, can read a book in a few hours, but hates to write.
Thanks for any advice! Sandy

Well, it really depends on how much time you have on your hands in terms of instruction.
Ideally, you would take the 5th grader through Homer Workbook A (and then B) and the accompanying core book Homer (same for both Workbooks A, B, and Older Beginners). I think the younger boy would do better to learn this material slower, and have the writing projects presented at a slower pace.
But if you need to teach them both at the same time, they could both do Older Beginners so long as you have lower expectations of the younger student.
