Is 9th Grade to late to start with these programs? I'd really like my son to do the Older Beginners programs for Aesop/Homer and the Poetry.
He has done some copywork before with Sonlight. He is a great speller and knows the basics of grammar (punctuation, capitalization, parts of speech ie: noun, verb, adjective etc) and also knows the basics of writing (main topic, paragraphs, 5 paragraph essay).
He is weak in using the dictionary, as in he can't easily find the words and he doesn't understand how the guide words can help him. I don't know why he has this issue, but everytime I have him use a dictionary he "freaks out" for lack of a better description.
He will be 14 when we begin 9th grade. If he does the Older Beginners program in 9th grade, what would the remaining years look like as far as what to use?

Look on our FAQ board for some suggestions on how to do writing in the older grades. lene.proboards.com/index.cgi?board=placementYes, Aesop and Homer for Older Beginners is worthwhile doing for a semester in 9th grade. It would lay a good narrative foundation. After that you would do Diogenes Maxim one semester and Diogenes Chreia the next and then onto Herodotus. Lene
