I am having trouble understanding the writing project for Homer A week 9. As I understand it the child it to differentiate between essential and accidental elements before beginning the project. However, the essential/accidental lesson is not until week 10. Thank you in advance for clarification.

Debbie, You're right that WP3 introduces essentials and accidentals to the writing project. For Week 9 of Homer A, however, be sure to carefully follow the plan set forth in the student workbook, which takes into account the fact that you've not quite gotten there yet. It's still important to make sure that the student's outline contains all the essential scenes from the narrative though, just like in WP2. Carolyn
