Hi, all! I haven't been on these boards much, but my 11 yo dd and I are having a great time working through CW-Poetry. I am learning right along with her. (My 8yo is doing Aesop).
I am sorry to say that my poetry background is quite limited. The only thing I remember about poetry in high school is that they had us read unfamiliar poems and give our translation of them (what do you think the poet is trying to say?...I guess that he/she meant that, but he/she could have meant this...and around we went). Then we were told to make up our own poems (without any further analysis). What a nightmare that was for me! And regarding college, let's just say I was a business major and leave it at that!
Well, we are working on Schedule I Week 6 and I must show my ignorance (and poor poetry education) and ask this. Who (or what) is "Jeremiah Obadiah" and is there some meaning to this poem that I am missing? I am vaguely aware of the Biblical reference but could use some other background info on the poem (since there is no author, I couldn't look it up).
Any help would be appreciated.
Blessings,

Kelly,
I am no expert, but I don't think that Jeremiah Obadiah is anything but a cute kid's ditty which features the meter that is studied in that part of the book.
In general I would add from our completing the older kids' schedule in CW Poetry, that interpretation is hard, but the more poetry we study, the more we seem to understand litte parts we did not understand before. SO give it time and practice.
