I decided to start this board so that those of you who are planning ahead, or who are wondering what is next after CW Homer can ask questions here.
CW Diogenes is only in the planning stages yet, but its format is already somewhat decided since we have chosen to write progymnasmata.
This book will be based on the progymnasmata of Chreia (a brief personal anecdote) and proverbs. The ancients took a familiar saying (a proverb or a chreia) and basically wrote a short expository essay showing why this was a wise saying by amplifying it through a set outline.
We will make use of that ancient outline and other ancient sources to fully develop the writing projects for CW Diogenes. In addition, CW Diogenes will finish up the work in Harvey's Grammar part II.
This book will be based on the work done in CW Aesop and CW Homer and could be started probably as early as 6th grade for a student with the necessary preparation.
Our goal with CW Diogenes is to begin to give a basic structure for a student who is learning simple essay writing. Our hope is to tie the ancient principles in with the modern essay format so that a student finishing the CW Diogenes book has not only learned the ancient classical principles of basic "invention", finding argumentative support for what he wants to say, but has also learned how to use those principles in modern essay writing.
This is just a rough sketch of things to come. Feel free to ask...
Lene
