Parents and teachers,
Classical Writing - Diogenes is fully written and in the proofing stages.
This is roughly geared for students 6th grade and up.
It is a book that continues the grammar learned in CW Homer and applies it to real life speeches and essays from famous people, like Shakespeare, Churchill, and FDR to mention a few.
With this book we have sought to teach the ancient outline of the progymnasma, Maxim, and show you how to apply it to modern essay writing.
Students will write about the wisdom of proverbs of Ben Franklin, Erasmus, Diogenes and others. In the lessons, we teach students how to write a thesis statement, how to develop an outline and write an essay.
For those of you who are planning ahead, this book should be ready by next semester. The book is written directly to the student, but as always be prepared to read, instruct, and read along with your student.
If you want email notification when it's out, you can email us at
classicalwriting@att.net
put *Diogenes* in the subject header.
Thanks for your interest. We hope this book will bless many of you as you work on essay writing with your older students.
Lene and Tracy

I've been turned off by CW Aesop because it's so much lower level than my student. Even the Homer looks familiar already, but I suppose I could start there. What about Diogenes? thanks

Yes, CW Aesop is basic and simple. That is why it is our first book.
CW Homer covers all the grammar of Harvey's elementary part I, parsing, diagramming, paragraph theory and understanding of narratives.
CW Diogenes is not by any stretch low level. I would recommend it for any high schooler that doesn't have its concepts learned. It covers Shakespearean speeches and other great texts and teaches basic essay writing from a paragraph topic by paragraph topic perspective.
Incidentally, neither is CW Poetry easy or simple. It covers many topics and concepts that most high schoolers do not learn anywhere else.
Thanks for your question Lene
