Hi! So I hear that you are revising the Diogenes: Maxim Core and Student Book. When do you plan to release it, and do you plan to offer any kind of discount to those of us who purchased the original Core and SG and then fell down and couldn't get up? Really? I suppose it was mostly my bad and NOT the fault of your materials. Can't you just see us though? Laying on our backs like bugs with our legs flailing in the air. Me flipping and thinking that the answer MUST be there right in front of me - maybe I JUST need more COFFEE!!! My ds red in the face and TOTALLY confused. Trying but bewildered. Me flipping some more and then declaring that there must be chocolate down in the pantry that needs consuming. Frustration? Yup. Not pretty. Argh! ;D We easily survived though. We set it aside, but I'd like to pick it back up. In the meantime we moved onto things like - write this paragraph. Write this report. Try to write this essay. Write about this and that and this. It's been good, but my kids are slipping further and further in the direction of cranking out stuff that has little flair. Most of the pieces are there, but the ta-da is missing. I'd like to give them a CW shot of B12. Any ideas about release dates? Smiling from Jersey! Thanks - Janice Enjoy your little people Enjoy your journey

We don't have a specific release date, but we are in the midst of proofing the Student Guide, and when the SG is completed, both the Core and SG will be released. "This Spring" is our planned timeframe. Offering a discount to those who have the old edition of Diogenes: Maxim is on our list of things to discuss. The picture of people who use CW laying on their backs flailing around like bugs is not a happy one. Heading for chocolate sounds much better. Maybe we should check with the printer to see if they could include a bar of chocolate with every order? Carolyn

Yes - but the bugs are still smiling. THAT'S Very Cool! Recognizing that flailing isn't so bad, especially when you can see how far you have come, is probably the key!! :-) Sometimes we flail despite perfect programs!
Let's put it this way. CW made me a better writing teacher. It's like getting a leg-up a very steep cliff and being placed on a high plateau - much higher than I think I could have climbed on my own. It is there that we fell down and started flailing. So it wasn't that bad. It was a sunny, warm place. The view was pretty good. We decided to muddle around there for a while rather than move on. We're getting bored there now. I'd like to start climbing again but wasn't looking forward to cracking the text that left us with heaven-ward limbs. :-)
I spent a weekend with Diogenes last summer and was pretty psyched to launch into it as written. My ds failed to share my ah-ha moment. We set it aside. I'm assuming that a gentler introduction to the material is necessary for this young man. I'm hoping that your new guide will do that.
THANKS for continuing to build roads without me!
Peace. Janice

Building road for happy bugs who like sunbathing on their backs ... what a picture that is! The more so as I've just finished up metaphor and am starting in on personification with my children. I can hardly wait to get to Diogenes as well. It really makes so much sense to me. First, we need to work through Homer B though. One step at a time. Thank you for encouraging us! Carolyn

Was there any decision as to a discount for first edition owners? I purchased the first edition and haven't even used it yet as we're still in Homer. I'd really like to get the second edition and the student book, but I was hoping there would be some sort of a discount.

We do indeed have a discount for people who wish to replace their 1st edition copy of the Diogenes Maxim Core, or Core and Student Guide, with a 2nd edition version. To get the discount, drop us a note at classicalwriting@att.net. Include what you'd like to order (you can order more that just Diogenes) and where you'd like it shipped. I'll get back to you with an amount, and order the material when I receive your payment. The discounted 2nd Edition Diogenes Maxim Core is available only to customers who have purchased a first edition. You can purchase the Core for $20, or the Core and SG for $30, plus S&H. Carolyn
